Delete a Custom Category

Remove unused categories and labels from your Foundry account

Custom categories help organize users for assignments and reporting. You can delete a custom category or label if it was created in error or is no longer needed.

Because deleting categories can affect historical reporting, only delete a category when you are certain it will not be needed for future reference.

Before you delete a category or label

A category or label cannot be deleted if either of the following is true:

  • Users are still associated with the category or label

    • You must remove the category or label from all user records first
  • Active assignments reference the category or label

    • Categories and labels are often used in automated assignments
    • If a category or label is used in an active assignment, it cannot be edited or deleted
    • Once the assignment is closed or deactivated, the category or label can be deleted

Delete a label from a category

If you no longer need a specific label, you can delete it from the category.

  1. Go to Users > Custom Categories
  2. Locate the category and select Edit
  3. In the Manage Category view, select the trash icon next to the label you want to delete
  4. Select OK to confirm
  5. If you receive an error, remove the label from all users and try again
  6. Select Save to apply your changes

Delete an entire category

To delete a category, you must first delete all labels within that category.

  1. Go to Users > Custom Categories
  2. Delete each label associated with the category
  3. Return to the Custom Categories page
  4. Select the trash icon next to the category
  5. Confirm the deletion

Once deleted, the category is permanently removed.

Important considerations

  • Deleted categories and labels cannot be recovered
  • Deleting a category may impact historical reports and records
