Training Periods
Understand what training periods are and how to use them in Foundry
Overview
Training periods help administrators control how and when learners receive assignments in Foundry. They provide a structured way to organize assignments and manage how course progress is tracked over time.
Training periods are especially useful for organizations that need to reassign courses, manage recurring training, or support multiple departments with overlapping learners.
What is a training period?
A training period is a required assignment attribute that acts like a tag. Every assignment must be associated with a training period when it is created.
If a learner is assigned the same course multiple times within the same training period, they will:
- See the course only once
- Retain their existing progress
If the same course is assigned again in a different training period, the learner:
- Sees the course again
- Starts the course from the beginning
Training periods prevent duplicate course assignments while still allowing reassignment when needed.
Visibility and access
- Training periods are visible only to administrators
- Learners do not see training period names or details
- Any training period associated with an assignment cannot be archived
All organizations start with a default training period, which is applied to assignments unless another training period is selected.
