Users (for SCORM)

Learn how users are managed when training is delivered through SCORM

Overview

When your organization uses SCORM, your LMS or HRIS manages users and assignments instead of Foundry. Because of this, user management in Foundry works differently than it does for non‑SCORM accounts.

You do not need to manually upload users or set up Single Sign‑On when using SCORM.

How Users Are Created

With SCORM, learners are created automatically when they launch a course from your LMS or HRIS.

During course launch, the LMS or HRIS sends a unique user identifier to Foundry as part of the SCORM protocol. Foundry uses this identifier to create or match the learner record.

User Identification

Foundry stores a limited set of user data for SCORM learners, including:

  • LMS or HRIS user identifier
  • First name
  • Last name
  • Organization information

The LMS or HRIS user identifier is the primary identifier for the learner. This value may be an email address, username, or employee ID, depending on your LMS configuration.

In Foundry, this identifier is saved to the user’s SSO ID field.

Returning Learners

When a learner launches the course again, Foundry uses the same LMS or HRIS identifier to recognize the learner and restore their progress.

This allows learners to resume training where they left off without creating duplicate user records.

What Foundry Does Not Manage

When using SCORM:

  • Users are not created or managed manually in Foundry
  • Assignments are not created in Foundry
  • Login credentials are not managed by Foundry

All of these actions remain controlled by your LMS or HRIS.
