Preventing Workplace Violence Course: What’s New In March

New Ohio‑specific content, realistic scenarios, and a better experience for repeat learners

We’re excited to share that our Preventing Workplace Violence courses will be receiving several updates in March. These updates are designed to ensure the content remains relevant and engaging year over year, in addition to aiding with meeting the training requirements for general hospital staff in Ohio.

Ohio general staff healthcare training mandate

To help customers with the training requirements for general healthcare staff under Ohio Rev. Code §§ 3727.18–3727.182, both Preventing Workplace Violence courses will include a new page for Ohio learners. This page will outline certain provisions under the law such as staffing requirements, a confidential reporting system, anti-retaliation policy, and posting requirements. This update supports the mandate’s general staff requirements and complements our existing coverage of de‑escalation training.

Foundry users with learners who have a location set to Ohio will see this additional page with no action needed. If you’re a healthcare organization, deploy the courses via SCORM, and have learners in Ohio, you will need to download an additional SCORM package and assign the course accordingly to receive this update. For instructions on how to do this, visit this page on our help site.

Updated written multiple choice question scenarios

We will also update all multiple‑choice scenario scenarios (approximately 13) across both course versions, including new illustrations! These updates reflect realistic situations that can happen in many workplaces with practical strategies for preventing and responding to issues when they arise.

New topics include:

  • Verbal violence expressed as “jokes”
  • Offsite incidents
  • Online stalking or harassment occurring outside of work

In addition to scenarios, other examples (such as sample de-escalation dialogue) will be refreshed across both versions of the course to deliver additional value for repeat learners.

Enhanced learner experience

Changes will be made on select pages throughout the course to:

  • Reduce text on screen
  • Improve readability
  • Reduce cognitive load
  • Better meet intended learning objectives
  • Reduce repeated content between Active Shooter module and other course modules

These changes also ensure the experience feels new for returning learners.

Legal updates

The course suite went through a legal review and will be updated with the latest legal guidance.

New translations

We will also expand our translation of this course suite by adding:

  • Chinese (Simplified)
  • Chinese (Traditional)
  • French (Canada)

This brings the total number of available languages to five!
